About Us -
Shepherd Seeds is an independent, family owned seed merchant and wildflower seed producer based in the Lincolnshire wolds. Starting at the kitchen table in a small cottage in Walesby we have grown significantly over the years and continue to specalise in the sale and production of British native wildflower seeds and a wide range of agricultural grass seed and amenity lawn seed mixtures. For over a decade we have supplied thousands of customer each year with quality seeds and expert advice. During this time we have become one of the UKs most trusted suppliers of British native wildflowers and grass seed mixtures. Our attention to detail, impressive product offering and fast delivery have enabled us to grow as a business. Most notably in 2020 we expand our operations with our new head office and warehouse facilities here in Wragby, Lincolnshire. The new site has enabled us to offer a wider range of amenity and commercial products as well as vastly increased production capacity due to the installation of our various new seed mixing equipment.
We look forward to working with you
Bespoke Seed Mixtures -
We mix and dispatch hundreds of tonnes of bespoke seed mixtures each year and every one of them is blended specifically to our customers requirements, with quality and consistency at the heart of everything we do its no wonder our business is…growing.
Once your bespoke mixture has been formulated, our warehouse team carefully pulls each individual ingredient from stock and prepares the batch for mixing. The seeds are then blended together using one of our specialist seed mixing plants, ensuring an even distribution of all components throughout the mixture.
To maintain the highest standards, we carry out quality checks during the process, taking samples to confirm that the seeds have been thoroughly and uniformly mixed. This ensures you receive a consistent product from the first bag to the last.
After mixing, the seed is accurately weighed and packed into bags. Each bag is securely sealed and given a label with a unique code that identifies the mixture. The bags are then stacked on pallets and loaded onto the pallet wrapping machine. Each pallet is wrapped and checked before being placed in the dispatch bay for collection by haulier or ready to be loaded onto our own lorry.
Before leaving our premises, every order undergoes final checks to verify quantities and labeling, ensuring your seed arrives exactly as expected and ready for use.
To protect the integrity of every mixture, all mixing equipment is thoroughly cleaned between batches, preventing cross-contamination and maintaining the purity of your bespoke seed blend.
From mixture formulation to delivery, we take pride in producing high quality seed mixtures that you can rely on.
Trials and Development -
Alongside our ongoing wildflower seed production and at the heart of our business is a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. That’s why we invest in ongoing, long-term trials to help us better understand how different species, varieties, and mixtures perform in real-world conditions.
Our trial work allows us to monitor establishment, persistence, productivity, and overall performance over time. By assessing mixtures across multiple seasons and varying conditions, we gain valuable insights that help us refine existing products and develop new mixtures to meet the changing needs of farmers, land managers, and conservation projects.
These trials are not only designed to benefit us as a business—they are there to help our customers make informed decisions. By gathering reliable, long-term data, we can provide practical advice and recommendations based on proven results rather than assumptions.
We believe that the best seed mixtures are built on evidence, experience, and continual development. The knowledge gained from our trials helps ensure that every mixture we offer is backed by a deeper understanding of what works in the field.
As agriculture and environmental priorities continue to evolve, our trial programme enables us to stay at the forefront of mixture development, giving our customers access to innovative, effective, and well-tested solutions for their individual requirements.
