Lawn Seed FAQs
What Can I Do to Stop My Dogs Wee Killing My Lawn
Dog wee can cause yellow or brown patches on lawns because it contains high levels of nitrogen and salts, which can “burn” the grass when concentrated in one area. While nitrogen is normally beneficial, these strong deposits overwhelm the turf and damage both leaves and roots. To reduce the impact, it helps to dilute the area with water soon after your dog has been on the lawn, encourage them to use a designated toilet space, and maintain a thick, healthy lawn through regular mowing, feeding, and overseeding. If damage has already occurred, affected areas can be raked out and reseeded to encourage fresh growth. While no grass seed can completely prevent urine damage, our Lawn Seed for Dogs mixture can significantly help the lawn recover more quickly and maintain a healthier appearance over time.
Is Budget Lawn Seed Good Even Though its Cheap?
Yes! Our Budget Lawn grass mixture is still very high quality and will produce a very nice lawn. We are able to make this mixture more cost effective as it contains grass varieties that are easier to multiply and harvest making them cheaper to source. We are then able to pass this saving onto you.
When is the Best Time to Sow Lawn Seed
Lawn seed can be sown either in mid to late spring, around April/May or in September/October. Grass seed requires a good amount of water to germinate and for this reason unless you are able to water it daily it is best to do it when natural rainfall is likely to be frequent. It is best to avoid sowing lawn seed in the middle of summer or when prolonged dry weather is forecast.
How Long Does Lawn Seed Take To Grow
Lawn seed can take up to fourteen days to germinate and weather conditions play a huge role in this. When sown in the autumn when the soil is cooler but there is plenty rainfall lawn seed will take up to three weeks. When sown it the warmer spring months lawn seed can germinate in as little as six days.
What is The Best Lawn Seed For Gardens With Dogs?
We recommend using our Lawn Seed For Dogs Mixture . This mixture contains a high level of perennial ryegrass which has a thicker leaf than other grass species. This thicker blade allows it to flex and bend more times before becoming damaged. This is very important when you are looking for a lawn that will be hard wearing. The larger leaf area of perennial ryegrass also contributes to its resistance to yellowing from dog wee. These factors make it perfect for gardens with dogs that love to run around and play.
