British Native Wildflower Seeds

Shepherd Seeds have been producing and selling British native wildflower seeds for over a decade now and in this time have helped thousands of customers achieve their goals of establishing wildflower meadows. We specialise in bespoke British native wildflower seed mixtures tailor made for soil type and desired habitat outcome. Many of our wildflower seeds are grown here at our site in Lincolnshire. Our wildflower seeds are first hand harvested from known truly wild seed stock then grown on in multiplication beds to create enough seed for us to then strip plant each species in commercial scale plots. This process can take between three and five years. Once established and ripe each wildflower plot is harvested using either a combine or a meadow brush harvester. The collected seed and flower heads are then taken back to our warehouse and laid out to dry. Once fully dry we can then start to clean the wildflower seeds. This process involves putting everything collected through a special seed cleaner many times changing the sieves each time to take out more and more of the dried flower petals and bits of stem. After doing this several times we end up with a clean sample representative of the full batch. Once at this point we can now pack the cleaned seed for storage.
