Description
By far the most popular of all the snowdrops its official name Galanthus Nivalis (in the green) bulbs are widely known as ‘the common snowdrop’. They are usually the first flower to appear in the new year. Each bulb sown will produce beautiful white flower heads on delicate green stems. After flowering the green foliage remains still offering colour during the winter months. They have a honey scent and naturalise well. Happiest in part shaded positions in moist but well drained soil. They look wonderful planted en masse in a grassed area, or equally as good in borders and rockeries. If planting the Galanthus Nivalis (in the green) bulbs in grass, wait until the flowers and foliage has died off to cut it. They will require planting out immediately.
When handling bulbs, wearing gloves is advisable as they can be a skin irritant and harmful if eaten.
Snowdrop bulbs look perfect planted with other spring classics such as Daffodils and early Tulips . For that glimmer of hope that spring is on its way.
