Description
Snakes Head Fritillaria bulbs were historically common in places like hay meadows and long term grass leys. They have a dainty little bell shaped head which is a purple colour with a chequered pattern – quite unusual. On delicate thin stems and with long thin foliage, they are ideal for a wildflower area in the garden or pot display. They would even make a wonderful addition to a woodland area as they really like moist conditions. Snakes Head Fritillaria bulbs are quite fragile, so when planting take care handling them. Plant the bulbs on their side from September onwards in fertile well drained soil, preferably in a sheltered position.
When handling bulbs, wearing gloves is advisable as they can be a skin irritant and harmful if eaten.
