Summer flowering Daliah bulbs are a beautiful Summer perennial. Coming in a variety of sizes, colours and styles. Ideal for every garden and there is one for every gardener! They make wonderful cutting flowers. Often seen at a Country Fair in the winners circle for best flower. Daliahs are not frost hardy, so will require a cool and dry place to winter over. If deadheaded regularly they can last well into the Autumn. You will have a beautiful long lasting display in the garden. Daliah bulbs prefer free draining soil and will possibly survive in these soils over winter. For those gardens with heavy soil you will need to lift the bulbs being careful not to damage them. Store in a greenhouse or garage. Plant them back out once there is no risk of frost. May is usually a good time, but in Scotland its generally a little later.  They like full sun and will need space as they can spread out. Daliahs can take a good compost, so improve the soil by adding this before planting out. Unfortunately they are at risk from slugs so be sure to protect them at their early stages of growth. Some varieties are very tall and their heads are large, in which case stalking will be necessary. All Daliahs will need a good watering throughout the warmer summer days. A good feed maybe fortnightly would be appreciated. Something like a tomato feed will be sufficient.
